CLASSIC GRIT WEEKEND PLAYLIST 06

Hey CG Family!

It's been a while since we've shared some music with you, and we're super fired up to back with Classic Grit Weekend Playlist 06! Our guest this week is the amazing Zach Lind of Rock-n-Roll legends, Jimmy Eat World. Zach's legit one of the best rock drummers of our generation, from one of the most important rock bands of the past few decades, and he's a MASSIVE baseball fan to boot. There's some tremendous synergy happening here, and we love it!

Zach shared some of his favorite songs with us, and gave us some great answers for our Q&A segment. Links to the playlist and the transcript of our chat are below. Enjoy!

A Q&A WITH ZACH LIND OF JIMMY EAT WORLD

1. What was the first band or artist that you remember clicking for you? What about them drew you in? Are they still in your regular rotation?

U2 - The combination of Edge’s guitar and Bono’s voice totally captured me as a kid. It felt heightened in some way I didn’t really get at the time. I think I appreciated that they seemed more authentic in the age of hair bands (that I also really liked).

2. Your dad played in the bigs for a bit, and spent decades on MLB and MILB coaching staffs. That had to play a massive role in you developing a love of the game, but what else about the sport speaks (or spoke) to you?

I grew up in and around baseball my entire childhood. It was a way of life for our family in a very literal sense. I loved it, and then burned out on it in high school as I fell in love with playing music. But as I’ve entered my 40s I’ve reconnected so much with baseball as I watch my 11-year-old play the game and play it so well for his age.

3. You and the Jimmy Eat World fellas hit a decent amount of MLB games while you’re on tour. Got a favorite MLB ballpark? What do you dig about it?

I finally made it out to Fenway a few years ago and was really blown away. It’s the best in-person baseball game experience I’ve had. I love the history you feel when you’re there. They’ve done maybe a better job than anyone at updating the park while retaining the traditional feel.

4. Jimmy Eat World has played everything from dive bars, to amphitheaters, to stadiums, and everything in between over the past 30-ish years. What’s your favorite live music venue, and what puts it a cut above the rest?

I’d have to go with Red Rocks. It’s such a beautiful place and the music sounds so good there. I can’t wait to play there again.
